Cherry Kidney Beans

The Cherry kidney bean is one of the common sub-varieties of kidney beans in Zimbabwe. Kidney beans are known as 'common bean' or 'sugarbeans' in Zimbabwe and this variety is also called cherry sugarbeans. The names vary from one market to another. The characteristics of this bean in Zimbabwe is good yields, up to 3,200kg/ha. It matures in 88 days, which is slightly shorter period compared to the other varieties. The good thing about this variety is that it is resistant to common bean rust, angular leaf spot and bacterial blight, which are common diseases that affect beans not just in Zimbabwe but globally. Its seed size is large and kidney shaped. Cherry kidney beans have a thick sauce and a sweet taste.
